No Work, 183 Days of Residence
The Non-Lucrative Visa prohibits any gainful activity, including remote work, and relies entirely on passive income. The required income is roughly EUR 2,400 per month (with additional amounts for family members). To renew the visa, at least 183 days of residence in Spain per year are required, which also makes you a Spanish tax resident.
Tax and Citizenship
183 days of residence per year means you become liable for tax in Spain on your worldwide income, so tax planning is important. Permanent residence can be applied for after five years of residence, and citizenship after ten years (two years for applicants from certain Latin American countries and Iberian origin).
